A head-on crash between two vehicles around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday resulted in two confirmed fatalities on Colorado Highway 184 west of Dolores, according Colorado State Patrol.
The crash between a Dodge truck and an RV, which took place minutes after a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous/Drunk Driver Immediately) call, happened near mile marker 3, CSP said in a news release.
CSP reported the Dodge was eastbound and crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding with the driver’s side of the RV.
The driver of the Dodge, an 84-year-old male, and the driver of the RV, a 49-year-old male, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Montezuma County Coroner George Deavers told The Journal that a cause for the crash has not been confirmed, and autopsy results are expected on Thursday.
The names of the drivers have not been released, pending the notification of their families.
Montezuma County Sheriff Steve Nowlin said the area around the crash will be “closed for hours” in both directions near mile marker 3, and requested that drivers avoid the area.
Detours have been made east and west of the crash scene utilizing county roads. Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash and said it is unclear how long it will be before the highway is open again.
